Stress & Crazy Mom Monster #ONatural

March was a busy month for most of us. Spring break, Easter and in Ontario we had a couple of snow days squeezed in there as well. I think it would be fair to say Parents had the kids at home more than the Teachers did in school. I didn’t have many deadlines, so I took most of March off from writing.

Those off days were defiantly not spent off, my Mother of four role kicked into high gear. We watched many movies on these rainy spring days of March; we read books, colored, played Lego and I took time with each of our children enjoying one-on-one time.

I will be honest the first half of Spring Break took plenty of patience from us all. The kids fought like kids do. He did this; she did that. They pinched and pulled hair and said things they should have kept to themselves. I cried, yelled (yes that happens), bribed and did all the stuff us parents do just to make it through the day.

This happens in most families, right?

My workouts took the backseat, my water intact dipped, I was snacking on popcorn midday and sneaking chocolate squares when the kids weren’t looking.

I turned into Crazy Mom Monster.

Teamwork from them seemed impossible; sibling rival was in full swing, and I was reminded of my years (not so long ago) as a stay at home Mom of four back to back babies.

Those days when you rolled out of bed and forgot to brush your teeth till dinner time. Days when you locked yourself in the bathroom for a moment of peace. Although the whole time they banged on the bathroom door because so and so took their toy. The cold tea that got reheated a dozen times before lunch.

To them, these are the big deals in their little world. To us, these are the things that turn you into Crazy Mom Monster.

Keep Calm and Mommy On

It is safe to say I wasn’t prepared for me to turn into the Crazy Monster Mom I transformed into this Spring Break. I’ve been working very hard on keeping balance and Zen into my days since all four kids went off to full-time school in the fall. I forgot all about the tips and tricks I’ve carried in my back pocket all those years prior.

Here are a few of my most popular Orange Naturals post I wrote with the advice I wish I remembered the beginning of March Break.

Remember Your Oxygen Mask First

It is about taking the time to breathe, relax, read a magazine, sit and enjoy a mindful moment. If that means throwing on a movie for the kids and locking yourself in the bathroom, do it! Here are a few more ways to remember your oxygen mask

Grounded By The Little Things

Each day before I step foot off my bed I take a moment to be thankful for today, my family, the lessons I will learn and all the gifts I receive. At the same time, I meditate with deep breathing which is known to help with relaxation and a very helpful tool for stress relief. These daily practices leave me feeling overly grateful and extremely grounded to take on my day. Read more – Grounded By The Little Things

Date Night At Home

It was the Wednesday of Spring Break, and I said to hubby, I need a date. It was last minute; dinner wasn’t prepared, and I was exhausted. Our oldest made PB&J sandwiches for the kids, and we ordered in sushi for mommy and daddy. The midweek takeout date at home with my man allowed me to refocus and give my all the next few days. • While I don’t have kids, I had my grandsons here for part of the Spring Break, as well as over the Easter Weekend, so I understand this Mommy Monster things. It’s even harder on Nanas!

  • WELL, I think it gets worse when they hit teen years, they know everything, they hoard kitchen items (plates, glasses, FORKS) AND they think you’re mean as hell cus you don’t let them do what every other kid seems to be allowed to do

  • Phew…so glad I wasn’t alone. March break was hard, with the added snow days plus my oldest sick the week after then off again for Easter. I’m so glad to be back to routine and the kids are back to school. With the craziness of March break I realized I need to start planning to be prepared for summer break.
