Tips on Hosting a Dinner Party With ShelterBox – Holiday Fundrasing

While it’s cold in Canada, it’s the perfect season to enjoy a candlelit dinner and warm the hearts of many through your fundraising goals with ShelterBox. You’re getting together with families and friends this season, so it’s an excellent opportunity to capitalize on the giving of the season and Shine for ShelterBox.

Now that you’ve joined ShelterBox Canada, it’s time to start planning the perfect candlelit evening. Here is how to host a dinner party with ShelterBox:

Step one: Write a list. Get it all out of your head and on paper. An essential step in all your party planning endeavors.

Step two: Pick a location. While nothing to me is cozier than a few friends and family gathering in the comfort of your own home, you just may not have the room to host. That’s fine. A local restaurant is another great option, and it would save you from cooking too.

Step three: Send out the invitations. ShelterBox provides you with downloadable invites: shelterboxcanada.org/shine-resources I sent mine over to my local printing store and for $0.50 they printed them for me. However, in the world of digital, I’m sure you could get creative here and start a Facebook event too.

Step four: Get planning. While conversation can naturally take you all over, keep in mind, you do have a goal for the evening, and it’s to collect donations for your fundraising goals. ShelterBox provides you with conversation cards to help you ease your guest into a generous mood. They also provide you with a script and story cards to place on the table for your guests to read. Don’t forget to have candles on hand to set the ambiance for the evening.

Step five: Set the Menu. First, think of your guest and any allergies they may have. That will help you set the menu. The colder months are the perfect time to get the party started with a warm soup. Download the ShelterBox magazine for a delicious Curried Carrot Soup recipe. If you’re not crafty in the kitchen, it may be a great time to check out Miss Fresh. They supply you everything you need to prepare a beautiful meal.

Step six: Share your passion. Tonight, is the night, you’ve worked hard, and at this point, you’re already filled your heart with generosity by organizing the evening. Share your passion and why this night is so important to you. By speaking from your heart, one by one your guest will make a difference. Every penny counts, no donation is too small.

Step seven: Have fun and pat yourself on the back for being the change the world deserves to see.
