Get Started With These Top Three Camping Essentials
One of the most important parts of planning your first camping trip with your family is shopping for the proper equipment. If you’ve never gone camping or haven’t since you were a child than the task of getting started may seem daunting, but it doesn’t have to be that way. These Coleman products are the top three camping essentials you’ll need to get started.
Camping Essentials
The Next Generation Air Bed
This past weekend we packed up our camping essentials and hit the open road to Haliburton in Ontario to spend the long weekend at our friend’s cottage. It was easier to leave the trailer at home this trip and pitch an old’ fashion tent. I’ll be honest I was a little concerned because the weatherman said temperatures would be dipping into single digits overnight – burr.
Over packing blankets and counting 100% on our Double High Colemen All-Terrain™ air bed to keep the cold off our backs. The day was perfect despite the rain and heavy sweaters, but all that mattered was we had good friends, food, and a warm place to lay our heads.
It was the first time in a long time since resting my head on an air bed. My memories of air beds always left me on the cold, uneven ground in the early morning fighting for comfort. This time was different. A quick three-minute inflated with the 120V pump provided and we had a double high Queen mattress sitting comfortably waiting to bring on sweet dreams.
Coleman has added Puncture Guard material which is a high-performance laminate that’s created by fusing a durable protective fabric to an airtight barrier that results in air beds that are firmer, more durable and stronger than existing PVC beds. Add more air for a solid sleep and take out air for a softer mattress. Hubby knows me well and found a happy medium that in the end is far more comfortable than my trailers mattress.
Yep, you heard that right.
We slept like babies on our new Coleman air bed. I have a new appreciation for air beds, and we plan on taking the Double High Colemen All-Terrain™ air bed on the road with us a little more. With hockey season quickly approaching we will be bringing it along as an extra sleeping space in Hotels for the kids.
Home Away From Home – Tent
A shelter is one of the life’s necessities. Coleman has a huge lineup of tents for every size of a family. We have a Coleman Phoenix Tent which sleeps ten. Although it’s huge and has three separate bedrooms, it takes about 30 minutes all hands on deck to set up. That’s pretty good considering the size of it.
Although if you’re looking for some more simple in size and set-up, you may like to check out one of Colemen instant dome tents from Canadian Tire.
Xtreme Cooler
We’ve covered warmth, how to keep dry, now it’s time to keep your food cold. You’d think this would be the simple part but unless you like running to the corner store during your holiday and dropping $5 per bag on the frozen water every day you need a cooler you can count on.
The Coleman 50 Quart Xtreme® 5 Day Wheeled Cooler will have you covered. This summer we took it on a 6-night adventure to Algonquin Park in Ontario. Deep in the woods where the bear’s sleep and miles from any shopping.
I packed food for the whole week and was counting on a cooler that had my back. We used two different coolers during our camping trip. We used the Coleman 50 Quart Xtreme® 5 Day Wheeled Cooler for meat and another no name brand for veggies and condiments.
During our six-night camping trip, we bought four bags of ice. Each time the ice we bought was only needed for our no name brand cooler. On day six our new Coleman 50 Quart Xtreme® 5 Day Wheeled Cooler still had ice in individual cubes from day one. We couldn’t believe it. All these years we were replacing ice daily in our coolers, and it turns out all we needed was a new Coleman performance cooler.
Now that you have Coleman camping essentials covered it’s time to start packing.

Oh how I wish they had those airbeds when I was younger. the old style air mattresses just didnt cut it. you still felt every rock and stick and bump underneath you. and they took forever to blow up.
Yep, that is what I remember from camping as a child. The airbeds today are so comfortable!
Love camping but I am at the stage that it needs to be done in an RV, no more tenting for this girl!
