Eat, Drink and Stay: Prince Edward County Romantic Getaway #BayofQuinte
Last fall we spent a day being local in Belleville, and we learned the ABC’s of Bay of Quinte Tours. Apples, Beer, Cheese, Chocolate & More! We enjoyed our time getting to know family travel in Bay of Quinte, but there was a whole different side of the Bay of Quinte we wanted to learn. The romantic side, where we leave the kids at home with Nana and spend our time wine touring in Prince Edward County.
As we were driving through Prince Edward County, I couldn’t help but feel as I was driving back in time. Where horse and buggies are traveling along a dirt road and maidens are standing in beautiful gowns on covered front porches. PEC is knee-deep in history, and you feel it as you drive the scenic shorelines of Lake Ontario. Visiting local shops, you will quickly learn the locals refer to PEC as “The County.” Tourist are familiar with PEC as the gateway to Sandbanks Provincial Park beautiful dunes and famous camping grounds for families.
That will change because the County is Canada’s fastest growing wine region with over 30 wineries and more expansion underway. Keep reading as we Eat, Drink and Stay in Prince Edward County on a Romantic Getaway.
Prince Edward County Romantic Getaway
The Huffs Estates Inn
You may recognize Huffs Estates Inn on your ventures to Sandbanks Provincial Park. It is a very modern estate that draws wondering eyes in.
The 15-acre vineyard lines all four sides of the winery, the inn and Oeno gallery. We spent two nights in a deluxe room featuring one king size bed, fireplace sitting area, private garden patio, LCD TV, fridge, high-speed Internet and three-piece bath with a glass block shower. The Huffs Estate Inn gives you a warm welcome as you arrive. The wood tones and vibrant red instantly allow you to unwind.
Huff Estate Inn rooms are very affordable for the high-quality of stay you receive. Each morning includes breakfast, and you can easily request any of their high-end wines to help you unravel at any time during your stay.
Oeno Gallery
Oeno Gallery is located on the Huff Estates property. Follow the path of sculptures, and you will find nothing less than brilliant work. Oeno Gallery makes the link between great artists and people who enjoy good contemporary fine art and sculptures.
I snapped a picture of some of my favorites from their new Colour Break Exhibition, which got me in the mood for spring.
Bay of Quinte Culinary Experience
Capers
Capers located in quaint downtown Belleville and only a short 20-minute drive from Huffs Estates Inn. Capers restaurant prides itself on exceptional meals which feature made to order dishes with the freshest local ingredients. Capers also has live music, and it is a local hangout on a Saturday and Friday nights since they offer an exceptional wine list and craft beers.
Hubby and I shared the most delicious bowl of mussels in a tomato, caper sauce, the best I’ve ever had. What grabbed my attention was how well the chef at Capers was willing to work with my dairy and egg-free food sensitivities. He customized my order and made my evening worry free.
Agrarian
Before our wine tour on Saturday, we asked the locals where they like to go for lunch. Quickly, everyone was sending us to Agrarian in Bloomfield only minutes from Huffs Estates Inn. The moment we walked in we knew we made the right choice.
Hubby enjoyed a mouth-watering yet straightforward burger, and I enjoyed a bowl of vegan potato leek soup and hand battered fish. The fact that Agrarian serves homemade vegan soups daily caught my attention. Typically, when we dine out soup is never something I can order with my dairy sensitivity. Agrarian won my heart in more way than one. They serve up the best espresso we’ve had. Even better than Starbucks, so much so we stopped for one on Sunday morning before heading home.
Prince Edward County Wine Tours
The whole point of our romantic getaway beside a kid-free adventure was to take a wine tour of Prince Edward County. With the growing popularity of vineyards in PEC, we wanted to see what the upcoming area was all about. Experiencing a wine tour less than two hours from home meant we had more time to play.
Our tour guide for the half a day was Prince Edward County Wine Tours. They picked us up at our accommodations at Huff Estates Inn in a black SUV for our four-hour tour of PEC wineries.
Our driver was extremely knowledgeable and answered all our questions along the way. He gave us some history and insight into all of the places we toured. In total, we wine visited five different wineries, tasting, at least, three wines at each location. I quickly lost count of how many samples I enjoyed along the way. That is why it is essential to have a designated driver such as PEC Wine Tours take you around. Not only are you safely driving from point A-E and everywhere else in between. You have a knowledgeable tour guide and local who can answer your questions and give you an insight into around the world of wines.
“Bay of Quinte has won our hearts and taste buds. The people, food, wine and hospitality all exceed our expectations. For all these reasons and more I feel a pull to get back again real soon! With and without our children.”
