Traveling brings families together; I’ve been writing that since 2011 on our In R Dream blog. That is why we love to hop in the car and road trip with our children. This time I road tripped on a three generations spa getaway at Elmhirst’s Resort in the Kawartha’s. Leaving all the men and boys at home, “the girls” packed our bags for a night away with my mother, sister, and daughter.

No Regrets – Book The Trip 

Life gets busy, and it’s so easy to say we can do it next week, next season, next year, but the thing about life is you never know what twists and turns the universe will throw at you. I don’t want to write an emotional post about losing a loved one, but after losing my husband’s gramma last week (who we were close too) and having no gramma’s of my own still alive, I wish I spent more time with them all.

I wish I had memories like these I shared with my mom, sister, and daughter with the grandmothers in my life. So my advice to you is to book a generations getaway, vacation or day out together because you never know what tomorrow brings and having regrets is hard to move.

“Firsts” Celebrated During Our Spa Getaway at Elmhirst’s Resort

When we embarked on our Elmhirst’s Resorts Spa Getaway, we didn’t realize we’d be crossing off so many firsts during our two days together. It was the first time my mother (aka Nana) has been to the spa or resort. Dining at the Hearthside Dining Room was the first time my mother devoured a roasted duck dish. Our spa getaway at Elmhirst’s Resort was also the first time a couple of us had experienced a real spa facial followed by education on taking care of our skin. Surprisingly, this was the first time my sister, mom and I have all traveled together as adults, and the first time a few of us have ever roamed a resort in a white robe.

I love firsts, and I believe that sharing moments like this is so important for your relationships with family and friends. My only regret is we didn’t do this sooner. Next time, my niece will be old enough to join us.

Our Expectations Exceeded at Elmhirst’s Resort

During our stay with Elmhirst’s Resort, they exceeded our expectations. Our cottage accommodations overlooking Rice Lake gave us more than enough room to spread out and feel at home, whether we were playing a game of chess, overlooking the lake with a book in hand or snuggled in our comfy bed, we felt at home.

The farm to table meals had our taste buds doing somersaults at every meal. Overlooking Rice Lake stunning views and secluded islands we enjoyed home-cooked meals made to order and meat and produce from Elmhirt’s Own Farm. That right there is the best burger you’ll sink your teeth into…it was heavenly.

And we cannot forget to mention Andrew our server at the Hearthside Dining Room during our stay. His big smile, conversation and pride in his abilities to make his clients experience perfection shined through every interaction with his guest.

The Spa at Elmhirst’s Resort

The Spa at Elmhirst is quiet, personal and luxurious. The one on one attention we received was unlike any spa experience I’ve had in the past. We were more than a name on a sheet; they treated us with care, love and great attention to our every need. We had the whole spa to ourselves something the Spa at Elmhirst’s Resort naturally does when a group books back to back treatments.

A cold glass of water spiked with doTERRA essential oils and homemade essential oil infused wild orange shortbread cookies, which mom aka the Cookie Monster – thoroughly enjoyed; offered up after every treatment. Paired with calming music, while wearing our white robes was the perfect escape to allow every piece of stress fade away in an instant.

Our Favorite Spa Treatments at Elmhirst’s Resort

The Spa at Elmhirst is an experience all on its own, located on the lower level of the resort overlooking the garden and life-sized chess board. It’s a hidden gem that I’ve been going to long before staying at the resort. Martina Linde operates the Spa at Elmhirst and is the first face you see when you walk in. She’s a wealth of knowledge when it comes to living a healthy lifestyle, and her desire to pass on her knowledge to her guest is what I believe drew me in the first time I met her. 

Tui Na Massage With Martina

Martina does a unique treatment called ” Tui Na massage.” This deep Tissue Chinese-style massage dates back to 2700 BC.  It is closely related to acupuncture using the Meridian system which is useful in treating a wide range of health problems. Martina is a wealth of information and has a very firm touch. If you are looking for something different when it comes to a massage and you have some health problems that need some attention, I highly suggest you book a Tui Na. Since my Tui Na massages starting in the summer, my digestive system has been working much more smoothly, and Martina has worked out some lingering knots.

Facials With Jennifer

My mother and sister had the best facials of their lives with Jennifer. Each facial was 60 minutes, and Jennifer was professional and focused on giving them both what their skin needs; whether it be firming, lifting, rehydrating, extracting, or all the above. Jennifer’s focus’ on detail and meeting your individual needs is spot on, and you feel the pride she takes in making the experience beneficial and relaxing for her client.

Love Yourself Pedicure

The moment we booked a spa getaway at Elmhirst’s Resort I knew I needed to book a side by side pedicure with my daughter. Being 12 there aren’t too many treatments that would suit her, but every girl loves a pedicure. Especially when she’s at the rink four plus times a week skating her heart out. 

We had a lovely view of Elmhirst gardens and a very peaceful leg massage to soothe away the aches and pains. This is a moment we won’t forget, and I hope we can replay over and over again.
