Charts and Family Contributions Gearing Up for Back-To-School #ONatural
We cannot stop time and it is happening….the last week of summer vacation is here! Although I never want the warm breeze of summer to end, all good things have to end sometime. We’ve had an absolutely amazing summer vacation. Sure there has been hiccups and many times mommy may have raised her voice past the point of calm but for the most part we have laughed, snuggled and built memories from June to September.
Routines Are A Moms Best Friend!
Next step is getting my four little people and mommy back into routine. Although we’ve slept in and went to bed late, we’ve still had some type of routine in order throughout the summer. Chores never stopped and get dressed, brush teeth was mandatory. This week alarm clocks will be set and bedtime routines will happen earlier than they have been all summer. I will be working endlessly on my back-to-school charts to make sure everyone is aware of their expectations before they head for the bus.
Make Rules & Stick With Them
Call me a hard mom if you will, but I expect my four little people to complete their “family contributions” (AKA chores) before school. That way after school we can work on homework and/or extracurricular activities. To me having them complete their family contributions before school is just as important as a routine as brushing your teeth and getting dressed.
Once they have completed their morning routine, they are awarded free time (that doesn’t included T.V or electronics) before school. In most cases the kid fly through their list and have between 30-15 minutes of free time. I have a clean house and they are building on life skills that are critical for their future!
After school they are free to do their homework and besides helping with dinner time cleanup they can feel accomplished that they are done their chores for the day.

Are the family contributions always the same or do they switch around? Do you have a list of chores for them to choose from? Just curious, as you know.. I’m working on our routine. hehe
Tammy, I am so curious as to what your “family contributions” consist of and for what ages!
Specifically looking for 5 year old! wink wink…you may know of whom I speak!! LOL
We are still on charts for the morning routine and love your idea of free time after routine and charts!
xoxo
Yay! I’ve found someone else who calls chores “family contributions”! I absolutely LOVE that we call them contributions because that is exactly what they are. I have never thought to do this in the morning – question…what time do your kids usually rise and what time do they leave the house?
Amanda I think we have similar parenting styles. Our kids are up at 7 (no earlier) and in bed around 8. As DD9 is getting older 8 during school nights may have to move up a bit.
