As important as learning your ABC’s is to a child, so is them learning to use their imagination. For more than the memories that they imprint on our heart and their own hearts. But for their growth and brain development during the most crucial time in their development. I personally feel that screen time is robbing our children from fully using their imagination to its full extend. I can only write based on my own learnings as a mother of four but when we let our children enjoy too much screen time they become lost. Their creative thinking is blurred and an addiction of “more games, more TV” takes over, paired with anger, rage and boredom.

Wikipedia definition of Boredom – Boredom is an emotional state experienced when an individual is left without anything in particular to do, and not interested in their surroundings.

“Boredom comes from a boring mind.” ― Metallica

In a way those to me those sound harsh but true and something I don’t want our children to be: not interested in their surroundings or have a boring mind.

As a child I don’t remember being bored? We were sent outside to play from morning to night and we got creative. We made mud pies, rode our bikes, put on concerts for our family and we found enjoyment in rolling in the glass just as children should.

Just in time for March Break this year we received a copy of my bloggy friends second book: More Boredom Busters. I was thrilled and I knew it would help me elimate the words “I am bored” from my children’s vocabulary. It sure did. My older two children (8 & 7) took the book and were inspired to try numerous boredom busters from it.

Each project they personally took on was a hit. The really enjoyed making Pirate Maps and the step by step instructions were clear and easy for them to follow.

After a long morning of making maps and being creative they then took it upon themselves to make a healthy and fun snack for everyone. From the cutting to the clean-up they covered it all off. I was very proud of them and they were very proud of themselves.
