Family Summer Adventure: Blue Mountain Resort Ontario #BiggerBlue
Summer Wonder
Do you find the question everyone is asking these days is – How has your summer been? I enjoy hearing what my friends and family have been up to this summer. It is so inspiring and fresh to hear new ideas, adventures to add to our own personal bucket list.
This summer we have been busy camping, exploring and our favourite family trip this summer was at Blue Mountain Resort Ontario. As soon as I say Blue Mountain Resort there is a scene of wonder that over takes the conversation and I get the question or comment saying “Blue Mountain in the summer? Is there more than Skiing?” – the answer is YES!
Blue Mountain Resort in Numbers
Blue Mountain has evolved into a true four-season destination, and continually ranks among the top family-friendly resorts in Canada. Blue Mountain is located 90 minutes north of Toronto and 11 km west of Collingwood. Blue Mountain Resort is a 40 acre pedestrian village at the base of the mountain that has more than 1,000 accommodation units and has capacity for over 2,000 guests on a nightly basis. With more than 45 unique concept restaurants, bars and retail spaces and more than 36,000 square feet of state of the art conference space and 2 onsite spas which minutes from the popular Scandinave Spa.
Blue Mountain Village in the summer?
Let me answer the question, wonder and curiosity on everyone’s minds when I tell them we spent our summer holidays at Blue Mountain Resort. Blue Mountain Resort is a blast in the summer months. I would have to say more so for our family then in the winter. Since we are just beginners in the skiing category I would say with confidence we found Blue Mountain Resort Ontario sing to our hearts during the warmer months with endless of summer attractions to suit our whole family.
Summer Attractions
What exactly can you do at Blue Mountain in the summer?
That is question number two I receive from friends and family – my answer is A LOT! After reading my first Blue Mountain Village post you can clearly see Blue Mountain puts on a show for their guest and they offer a variety of complimentary family entertainment for families.
Besides the free entertainment Blue Mountain offers, if you have a budget set aside to explore the summer attractions are endless. These are the summer attractions that are offered in the heart of the 40 acre pedestrian village at the base of the Blue Mountain.
Open-Air Gondola | Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster | Monterra Golf & Tennis | Plunge! Aquatic Centre | Private Beach | Mountain Biking | Hiking | Cascade Putting Course | Timber Challenge High Ropes | Woodlot Low Ropes | Mountaintop Segway Tours | Wind Rider Triple Zips
Please do refer back to Blue Mountain Village’s website for more summer attraction options outside of the resort.
Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster
Ridge Runner is Ontario’s first mountain coaster. The driver takes control of their own speed, travelling down the track with access to a manual brake, acquiring speeds of up to 42km/h through varied terrain for over a kilometer downhill.
Our whole family from Little O who is 3 to Mommy and Daddy all would have to agree that the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster was the Summer Attraction that won our heart. So much so we repeated the ride a few times each. The video below was capture on hubby`s Galaxy Gear 2 which is a quick 15 sec clip of the speed you are in control of on the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster at Blue Mountain Resort Ontario.
Please note: there is a high restriction on the Ridge Runner and children under 13 have to ride with an adult (over 16). Warning: Hold on tight it is a bumpy ride!
As you can see from our expressions below the Ridge Runner Mountain Coaster was a thrill and added to our adrenaline through each turn.
Cascade Putting Course
If your on a family vacation enjoying a game of mini putt is always a great opportunity to bond. Kids and adults can test their golfing skills at the Cascade Putting Course. Cascade offers bunkers and water hazards just like a full-size course, but on a smaller scale. The Cascade Putting Course is an 18-hole, par-67 putting course that is landscaped with a limestone backdrop, waterfalls and inspiring features that highlight the beauty of the natural surroundings and panoramic views.
The whole family really enjoyed putting our putting skills to the test. We did find the direct sun far too hot out on the course as there is little shade to keep the suns UV rays at bay. I would suggest enjoying the Cascade Putting Course in the early morning or early evening.
Even though I am not a huge fan of golf I still really enjoyed our family time at Cascade Putting Course. The course is beautiful and they have sectioned it off so well that during the 18 hole course you don’t feel like you’re at the mountain at all but on a real golf course. Spending a few hours on the course gives families an opportunity to work together and enjoy each others raw moments.
Mountaintop Segway Tours
During our stay at Blue Mountain we were so blessed that my in-laws came up for the day to spend with us and they also gave us a few hours of kid free time to enjoy a date. When we are at home date night usually includes dinner and possibly a movie. This date goes down in history as the best date ever we took a few hours in the afternoon to do a Mountaintop Segway Tour. A Segway tour has been something we have seen offered before but neither of us have experienced them. We seen this as the prefect opportunity to lay our curiosity to rest and take part in our love of off-roading on a different set of wheels.
These videos below were capture on hubby`s Galaxy Gear 2 which are quick 15 sec clips of our experience playing around and learning how to ride the Mountaintop Segway`s at the top of Blue Mountain.
The Mountaintop Segway Tour lasted 90 minutes. The first 30 minutes we learnt how to ride safety ride and self balance our own Segway. I was amazed by the technology of these machines and both hubby and I got the concept and balance down fairly quick. After the training our group of five were off on the trails on the top of Blue Mountain. The last 60 minutes went far too quick we were having a blast.
When we were done our instructor suggested hubby and I return for an advance 3 hour tour. His suggestion had us beaming and planning our next date adventure on the Mountaintop Segway Tour at Blue Mountain Resort Ontario.
Please note: You must be 16 year of age and older to operate a Segway transportation device. Limited number of Segways are available and it is recommended that tours are booked in advanced.
Plunge! Aquatic Centre
Another key attraction in the heart of Blue Mountain Village is the Plunge! Aquatic Centre. Plunge! is a 10,000 square-foot public indoor/outdoor aquatic center featuring pools, child-friendly water play areas, hot tubs, water slides and lounging decks which capacity is 400.
Plunge! is modeled after a typical Ontario boathouse complete with jumping platform and rope swing. The indoor Leisure Pool is outfitted with wide play steps for toddlers, lap pool jets, a raindrop umbrella, wet deck and indoor hot pool. From the indoor pavilion there is a swim-out to the larger and deeper outdoor pool. The outdoor Leisure Pool is heated all year around and has two water slides, an 8-foot dock slide and an extreme twisting tube slide. Also outside are an all-season hot tub and an 11-foot deep Action Pool.
We had a blast with the kids at Plunge! I am disappointed to admit that our pictures didn’t turn out because the moisture was intense inside Plunge! and with 2 parents and 4 kids we did have our handful enjoying the moment.
Pizza & Plunge! Plunge! Aquatic Centre has a great program for parents to sneak in a date night well staying at Blue Mountain Village. The program runs every Thursday, Friday and Saturday night for ages 4-12. Take the night off for $30 for 1st child, $20 for 2nd child, $15 per additional child (in the same family) check out the Plunge! Aquatic Centre website for more details.

I’ve been to Blue multiple times but have never stayed at the Westin House. We usually try to go once a year and I’ll have to look more into the cost of staying!
Wow, this looks like a lot of fun. I’ve never been but that coater is calling me! It looks like a very well maintained place and the mini golf would definitely be up my grandson alley of fun things to do.
We have skied during the winter at Blue Mountain but never visited during the summer, looks like we are going next year
