We Built Vivid Memories { #PioneerCamp Experience }
A few weeks back, our family was blessed with the opportunity to spend some quality time at Ontario Pioneer Camp. I was very interested in debunking my summer camp myths ( read how here ) never attending as a child I was unsure about what to expect and the experience was priceless in many ways.
Ontario Pioneer Camp
In the heart of Ontario’s Muskoka’s AKA Cottage country to most, Ontario Pioneer Camp lay’s on over 1200 acres of beautiful nature. With 3 base camps ( boys/ girls/ adventure ), over 3000 children are building vivid memories of their time spent here.
We attended Ontario Pioneer Camp with a few other families for a weekend filled with amazing adventures. The experience was one that has burned a picture in my mind and one that will forever hold a memory in our children’s heart. I could write a novel on how amazing the weekend was, but our pictures tell a far better story.
I never would have expected to have handmade name tags and camp shirts for our whole family. Once we arrived I knew we were in for a huge treat. Every little detail was covered, this told me their hearts were in it.Opening night was filled with laughter, they got the whole crowd involved (even the parents.) We were all silly and it didn’t matter we were having fun. Picture Credit: Ontario Pioneer CampThe rock wall at OPC was a huge hit with our family, big and small! From ground to cow bell 4 out of 6 of our family made it to the top. They have a wall course for everyone. The best part was the cheering and encouragement from everyone in the room. OPC has all the safety equipment required to keep safe well having a blast!Archery was not one of my favorite sport ‘s we endured during our time at OPC. However the kids and daddy had a blast. The staff ensures you are doing each step correct to take the perfect shot. And their were lot’s of bullseye made. When we first arrived at the low ropes course I was thinking oh no… this will be tough. Don’t get me wrong it was tough but we had a blast! The cheering the encouragement helped everyone through, big and small size didn’t matter. I am confident these memories will be vivid in our minds for many years to come. Photo Credit: Ontario Pioneer Camp water markedEndless amounts of fun to be had on the waters of Ontario Pioneer Camp. My question to the staff was how can I feel safe knowing my children will be accounted for every moment of water play? I was happy to learn that OPC stops all movement on the water for head counts every few minutes with the smaller children. Much like me they continually head count and use a buddy program with the children. Blankets were laid down and candles glowing and a huge fire was waiting to be lit. We played a few silly games, listened to some silly stories and watched a beautiful fire work show. I felt like I was in a dream, the details put into it were amazing. The staff at OPC once again made us all smile. It was hard to say goodbye, we did linger a little while longer.
Thank you from the bottom of my heart to the staff and the behind the scenes team at Ontario Pioneer Camp. Our weekend was unforgettable and I look forward to many upcoming years of memories our children will build with you.
