Summer Country Farmhouse Supper at South Pond Farms
Any foodie who loves to indulges in Netflix cooking shows knows the FOMO (fear of missing out) is real. After watching the Netflix series ‘The Taste of the Country,’ I quickly realized I needed to have Supper at South Pond Farms and indulge in all the farm to table goodness they offer. So I did just that.
South Pond Farms in The City of Kawartha Lakes
Alright, disclaimer South Pond Farms is located in the City of Kawartha Lakes where I live, so I organized a lunch with a bunch of moms last September calling it “We survived Summer.” But having been there numerous times since I guarantee you it’s worth the drive to Bethany, Ontario. Keeping reading for our play-by-play dining during the Summer Solstice Country Farmhouse Supper at South Pond Farms.
Thank you, South Pond Farms for sponsoring this culinary adventure.
Turning on Pit Road off Highway 7 lined with rolling hills and dirt roads it feels like something out of an old Western movie. The moment you drive up to South Pond Farms you’re greeted with views of fields, wildflowers and in the middle the most beautiful barn. They should place a sign on the road coming in stating “check your stress here” because the moment you lay your eyes on South Pond Farms you’re entirely relieved off all the weight on your shoulders.
The Taste of Country Summer Country Farmhouse Supper at South Pond Farms
After we parked our truck in the field in front of the cute little red barn, I took in a massive breath of fresh air because I knew we were in for a treat.
The Drink
Hand in hand we strolled up to the barn and were greeted by staff. Every detail is thought through, and the seating lists guides your way. But first, a cocktail at the bar – bartender Mitch is waiting for a few unique cocktails to start the night out. You can choose from the house drink or your pick because the bar is fully stocked. We tried the Smoked Bourbon which was spot on I had a couple before the end of the evening.
The Music
In the background, two gentlemen are playing jazz which ultimately adds to the ambiance of the evening.
The Company
People are laughing making introductions to new friends. The introverts in us have us keeping to the side and observe the comings and goings on the night. My husband is observing the architecture of the barn in all its glory. Me, I’m people watching, I overhear many say they never miss supper at South Pond Farms, some even drove up from Michigan to take in a few South Pond Events this week. A special road trip between friends, lucky enough we get to sit beside the Michigan ladies which made the night so much more special.
The Details
Happiness overtakes the faces of all as they take in the summer night sky with a special cocktail in hand, all the while snacking on assorted smoked appetizers set out on a lovely piece of nature, a serving platter I’ve requested from my hubby for any upcoming gift ideas he needs.
The Wedding Crashers?
This quiet downtime is welcomed since we’ve had a hectic year and there is nowhere else I will rather be than here in the arms of my man. It felt like we were attending a wedding of friends and this was the venue. They almost give you a wedding crashing feeling since we didn’t know anyone coming into this evening. Quickly we were laughing, dining and drinking with friends in the most beautiful well-known wedding Venue in Kawartha Lakes.

Supper at South Pond Farms
It’s time to sit down, and we all take our assigned seating, it’s getting rather late, and our bellies are telling us it’s time to eat. Sitting with the Michigan Ladies – Erika and Fran who completely won our hearts. Fran asks the best questions, and both women are genuinely happy and soul-warming people. They planned a four-hour road trip all around the Netflix series The Taste of the Country. They fit right in, and we all hit it off great.
Bringing the community together is very important to owner Danielle French who sits beside Erika to my right. Her neighbor and friend pour wine in the glasses around him another genuine soul we met who never misses supper at South Pond Farms. We almost feel like family at this point and the night is still young.
The first course is a Fire Roasted Cauliflower Puree.
Everything is locally sourced in all the courses that South Pond serves. Garnished with Traynor Beef Bacon, Jessica’s Kidney Bean Salad and a Green Onion Oil our taste buds started to dance the moment the puree hit my tongue.
The second course is a South Pond Panzanella.
Crispy Sourdough, sorrel, charred Garlic Scape, Crosswind Goat Feta. Greenhouse Tomatoes, cucumbers, and Empire Apple Vinaigrette. Sooo good I could have licked the plate when I was done.
The third course was served family style across the line of harvest tables.
A dish of Charcoal Grilled Asparagus, baby Heirloom Carrots, and BokChoi. Local Pristine Navy Bean Salad harvest this morning and the star of the show was the Primal Cuts whole roasted Pork Loin.
The pork melt in your mouth, juicy and so flavorful you knew everyone was craving more.
And just then when the platters were empty, the waitress came over and asked if we’d like a refill of anything. At that moment I knew this is precisely another star reason supper at South Pond Farms stands out from the rest. We all had seconds or third helpings every single dish was cooked, seasons to perfection. I cannot forget the homemade bread and wiped butter that I may have eaten my weight it as well during the meal.
“Hubby and I have appetites I mean, we eat, and we eat more. Food to me is more than just something I need to fuel my body; it’s an experience, it’s a delicacy, it’s texture, flavors and the way its prepared, grown and harvest all is equally important to us and the experience of eating. South Pond Farms nailed everything we love about food on the head. The quality, quantity, and the farm to table locally grown ingredients.”
The Sweet Ending.
The fourth and final course was a spring bounty board. Wild strawberry cobblers and chocolate chili salt, soft, warm brioche donuts with sumac sugar and strawberry shortcake with a spruce trip Chantilly. After indulging in all, you can eat dessert platter the sweet ladies from Michigan packed up donuts for our children to go.
“South Pond Farms brings date-nights to a whole new level. Whether it’s a girl-friend date night or the love of your life The Taste of Country Summer Country Farmhouse Supper at South Pond Farm covers off all the little details so you can focus and celebrate the moment together.”
