Everything about Florida continues to grab my attention and the need to go back time and time again. We’ve discovered Florida’s Space Coast in 2016 as a family after a 24-hour road trip with four kids. A year later, I was invited on an exclusive press trip back to Florida’s Space Coast without kids. This time, I got to skip the 24-hour road trip from Toronto to Florida and take a short 3-hour flight direct to the East Coast of Florida.

I loved everything about flying with Porter Airlines. The country girl in me found the drive from Kawartha Lakes to downtown Toronto much more comfortable than the long haul into Mississauga. I woke up early, beat the traffic, and parked off-site at the Porter Airlines parking garage. From there I took the shuttle over to the Toronto Island Airport. TIP: I bought my parking ticket online. You don’t need to book parking or your shuttle pickup online. I did this, and it added unnecessary extra steps; it confused the matter. There is a shuttle phone number, and it’s just as easy to park, call and pay at the parking lot.

From December 16, 2017, to April 7, 2018, Porter will offer weekly, non-stop flights between Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport and Orlando Melbourne International Airport.

Both Bill Bishop Toronto City Airport and Orlando Melbourne International Airport give you concierge service. It feels like you’re in a small town and everyone knows your name. Using these airports, you feel like a person instead of a number being hurdled like cattle into the next gate. Who wants to feel like that?

The easy check-in and short security lines had me sipping free coffee, water, juices, and shortbread within minutes of my arrival at Billy Bishop Airport. And that wasn’t just because we arrived as media, we didn’t have special treatment, everyone who flies with Porter is treated to the concierge service. We didn’t have to come hours prior and waiting around was very short-lived, enough to catch-up on the latest stories in social media before loading into the plane. Traveling to Orlando, Melbourne becomes quick, convenient, and comfortable. Fly Porter To Florida, and you won’t regret it. The best part is once the plane lands you’ll be on the beach in minutes.

TIP: You can buy extra snacks in the lobby but beware the prices were high. I always toss a couple of protein bars or nuts in my purse to avoid extra overpriced meals.

MLB staff are proud.

It was clear during our short arrival and departure that all the staff are proud of MLB. We even met the most critical member of the team, Kuma. She is the first trained airport ambassador dog in America. Kuma is the perfect fit for the job of calming down nervous flyers.

Porter staff are amazing.

The moment I saw our flight attendants, I was in love with the retro look. Felt like we were traveling back in time to the early days of aviation. How stylish are these two? Besides their style, they were so friendly and helpful. Always had on a smile and very accommodating.

Canadians Are Important to Florida.

Canadian’s call Florida our winter cottage or even a second home. They are making our travel dollars very important to Florida’s travel industry. Porter Airlines started flying into Orlando Melbourne from Billy Bishop Airport two years ago and has expanded with mid-week to meet passenger demand. A little birdie has told me that Porter is adding nonstop flights from Ottawa (YOW) and Windsor (YQG) airports. Rest assures Canadian’s will be in good hands when traveling through MLB.
