Indulging Through Lecce Italy by Night: Espressino Travel Puglia Tours

Lecce, Italy, a baroque city, weaving with breathtaking architecture, known as Florence of the South, located in Italy’s Southern heel. I quickly fell in love with Lecce because of its layers of history and small town charm, as we indulged our way through Lecce Italy by Night with Espressino Travel Puglia tours.

Lecce by Night: The Salento Tasting Tour

Our Lecce tour started at 6 pm under the column in Piazza Sant’Oronzo. The main square of Lecce was hoping with locals during the social hour before dinner time. In Italy, after 5 pm Piazza’s in any given Italian village or town come to life. Friends and family come together to laugh and enjoy each others company before dinner.

Caffeine and Sugar

First up Robert took us over to Avio Bar by Piazza Sant’Oronzo. Where our taste buds woke up with Lecce specialty coffee called Caffè in ghiaccio con latte di mandola (espresso with ice and almond milk). My taste buds are still in heaven just thinking about that first sip.

The way they whip up the top layer with a special blend of Almond milk and sugar is something I’ve been craving ever since.

If The Walls Could Talk

After we had doubled up on caffeine and sugar, we went on a stroll through the windy streets of Lecce. There was no shortage of history as Robert shared story after story through each alleyway.

Words are hard to find when describing the attention to detail in the architecture our eyes witnessed. Church after church, buildings, homes, and small shops all too much for the eyes to absorb. Robert weaved us through stories, history, pointing out details we would have missed without a new friend to share.

Our Lecce by Night: The Salento Tasting Tour was personal.

Robert is very well traveled and resides in Canada between seasons. He could relate to our North American culture and was open to answering all my curiosity questions when it came to Italian culture in Italy. His sense of humor allowed us to quickly feel like we were in Lecce with an old friend. Sharing stories and memories along the way.

Best Pizza in Italy

Between Rome and Santa Maria di Leuca we ate a lot of pizza on our 10-day road trip in Italy. After Espressino Travel took us to Pizza&Co in Lecce nothing else compared. The crust, sauce, and simple, fresh toppings rate hands down as the best pizza in Italy.

The owners who are brothers originate from Naples and are true Italians. Their enormous heart is felt the moment you walk in, and they love Canada (Note the Canadian flag in the picture.)

Dinner doesn’t get any better than sharing a hot slice of pizza and beer on the steps of history, people watching on the busy streets of Lecce.

This moment – is one of my favorites.

Humble & Yummy

Over at Mamma Elvira Enoteca, we enjoyed a bottle of wine from Salento region which paired perfectly with our appetizer of the night. A simple, humble dish of fava bean and chicory and delicious meatballs. Puree di Fave e Cicoria dates back in the Puglia region for centuries, and still, today remains one of the region’s classic dishes and a must taste.

We indulged in more Italian street food, gelato, beer and wine during our evening with Espressino Travel. Strangers were enjoying a meal with friends on the streets of Lecce graciously offered up a taste of savory doughnuts called Pettole to us while we were passing by.

The historical stories and the delicious food Robert shared we would never have indulged in without taking his Lecce by Night: The Salento Tasting Tour. His attention to details and desire to learn and share the history of Lecce made our night one to remember.
