Garage Sale Tips for the Hunter inside of you! #LeonsGarageSale + Giveaway
It was a few years back we decided we were done having babies and all these baby items needed a new home. We spent days, okay weeks arranging everything lining our long driveway with our old treasures. It was exhausting and I am go glad we got to experience it. However we quickly learnt that hosting a Garage Sale is not our thing and from here on out we either post our best items on Varagesale or call Clothesline program to donate our previously loved items.
That being said I do love getting up early and hitting local garage sales on the hunt for the best buys I can find. I am not what you call an experience garage sale hunter. I tend to go with either my dad or my mother in law, who both are experienced in finding the best bargains. Plus it is a time to bond and spend a Saturday morning.
My Best Garage Sale Find.
My best garage sale find was over 9 years ago. Miss C was only months old and I stumbled on with my Dad and Mom, a mom who was selling all her brand name baby girls clothing. The seasons matched and she was so reasonable selling everything off at $1 per piece. I scored over 100 pieces of baby girl clothing, plus a breast feeding pump that originally would have been over $400 for $20. It was brand new since she couldn’t produce milk. This picture is the day her wardrobe grew bigger than mine. It hasn’t gotten any smaller over the last 9 years.
Garage Sale Tips for the Hunter inside of you!
- Set your alarm clock. The best deals go early and you don’t want to be tardy when looking for the best picks. Be on the road between 8 and 9 am.
- Eat a healthy breakfast.
- Pack lots of snacks and water.
- Wear comfortable shoes. Garage sale searching involves lots of walking. You will want to be comfortable while you hunt.
- Layer your clothing! That way you won’t get too hot or too cold.
- Stay protected from the sun. Don’t forget to wear sunscreen and a hat.
- Bring a measuring tape. And measure the areas in your home you plan on buying previously loved furniture for.
- Don’t go Garage Sale shopping alone. It’s great to have a second opinion, be sure to bring friends and family with you!
- Bring cash. I like to have change on hand too, for those moments you want to cut a deal with the seller. I line both my pockets with money. One with bills and the other with loose change.
- Don’t forget to Bargain. This is where I need to gain confidence and make an offer.
