Successful New Year Resolution That Happened Eleven Years Ago – 45 lbs gone
As soon as January hit’s it’s feels like a new door opens and you can give a fresh new start at anything you please. To date my most successful New Year resolution was in 2004. I have always been careful about what goals I put on myself. Because when I challenge myself to reach a goal or dream I work dame hard at making that dream come true.
Eleven Years Ago…
Back in 2004 I decided I was going to start my year off with a new healthy lifestyle. Everyone around me was on a fad diet and still today I do not use the word diet in the same tone other’s use it. I firmly believe “diets” don’t work. At the time I worked at Shoppers Drug Mart and I can tell you break time was nothing but tempting. Working around all that chocolate and snack food something had to be done I was 22 and was in a size 14. We didn’t have kids at this time but we were married and enjoying eating out at all you can eat restaurants and indulging in the biggest burgers in town!
The Secret To Weight Lost
At the time internet was nothing big – I am not sure if we even had it? So I did a lot of reading through magazines to find my inspiration. I taught myself the biggest secret there is to know about weight lost – mind over matter!
When I would grab a chocolate bar at work I would pause and talk myself out of it by saying stuff like “The factory it was made in was dirty.” or ” You eat this Tammy and you will have to start all over again.”
We revamped our kitchen and brought in foods that were loaded with healthy nutrition. Anything that was white I didn’t eat such as: potatoes, breads, rice. Sweet potatoes were on the menu daily and I did enjoy a piece of chocolate each day but it was Lindor 70% and only a piece. No fried foods and another secret to my success was – I ate EVERY two hours!
Ten Sizes Gone
I didn’t expect the results I got, this was the first time I decided to lose weight and I dropped 45lbs in three months. I went from a size 14 to size 4. I worked hard in those three months and didn’t slip once. I cut myself off from any social relationship except from the amazing support from my still incredible husband.
Once April hit I was a size 4 and looking good. The problem was after losing that much weight that quick, my skin was a wee bit saggy. My husband already enjoyed working out and did it daily after work; I decided to take him up on the offer and joined his weigh lifting gym.
Toning The Sag
I went from never working out to absolutely addicted to it. I had a personal trainer that taught me all the little tips and tricks there was when lifting weights and toning. My hubby, a friend of mine and myself met at the gym five days a week after work and it was a part of our routine we couldn’t get enough of. By summer I was a size 4 and ripped with a 6-pack.
How Long Did It Last
I stayed that size for a year and a half till we got pregnant with our sweet baby girl. Since the day I gave birth to her (almost 9 years ago) I haven’t seen a number on the scale dip below 160lbs….until December 2014.
In October 2014 we started a healthy lifestyle change for all six of us – Our Big Family Detox and since then I have dropped 15lbs.
Do you have a successful New Year resolution standing out in your mind?

Way to go Tammy! I’m so proud of you! Keep up the good work!
I have not. But this year mine is to make healthier choices.
That is so motivational Tammy! I hate diets because I feel like limiting myself makes me want it more. So this year I am determined to live a healthier life. I love my potato options like french fries and mashed potatoes so I will definitely be giving the sweet potatoes a try. Congrats on the weight loss and the healthier lifestyle.
You are doing awesome and how great that your’e doing it as a family 🙂 It might not always be easy to do, but it’s worth it in the long run and your health will be forever thankful you did <3 Keep up the great work Tammy!
How amazing Tammy! What a fantastic story – you really are an inpsiration!
I’m going to try out your trick of saying things to myself when I go to grab something that I really shouldn’t!
