A Baby’s First for Everything Documented in a Scrapbook: #PampersFirsts
When we first found out we were going to be parents it was the summer of 2005. I remember waiting to see those double lines on my Clear Blue pregnancy test for so many months. The day it first happened was a day I will never forget, we both walked around that day with an ear to ear smile and tears in our eyes. Our dream to be parents was coming true and we were going to have a baby.
From that moment I started to journal my feelings, thoughts and symptoms, since this was all firsts for me it was a great way to document this incredible time in our lives. I also started my very first scrapbook, which was my goal to have as a gift for our little one to look back on their first year filled with firsts and feel loved and important.
My scrapbook started with a story about us – mommy and daddy. The baby showers I received, the cards that were given to us before our brand new baby was here. The love we had in our hearts before we even met.
Once she was born our whole world was brighter and each day was filled with firsts that we never knew would be so very important.
It wasn’t about us and our firsts any more it was all about her and her first. Capturing those moments for me as a first time mom was a huge priority for me and looking back today I am so glad I did.
From her first leaving the hospital, her first bath at home, her first time nursing, her first trip to the Toronto Zoo, her first swim, the first time she stood in her crib, her first boyfriends, if it was a first for her, I captured it between the sheets in her first scrapbook.
My best friend always told me if you do this for the first child you must do it for the second and so on as well. I have to say I worked extremely hard to live by her advice and our third also has a scrapbook of his firsts too. However, poor little O didn’t get the scrapbook I dreamed of because realistically I had 4 children 5 and under once he was born. I still do plan on fulfilling my personal promise and one day completing a scrapbook for him, just as I did for the others.
Pampers has made a beautiful video of firsts that left me grabbing a Puffs to wipe my tears.
When your firsts, second or third comes along be sure to take Pampers as your baby’s first diapers which are available in Loblaw stores, along with Atlantic Superstore, Extra Foods, Your Independent Grocer, Zehrs Markets, Valu-mart or Real Canadian Superstore. Pampers is a brand you can trust I have been to the plant where they are handmade with love – learn more about how Pampers are made here.
Grab those puffs and enjoy this heartfelt video.
My tears started to roll at the baby’s first word. There is something about a newborn cry that melts my heart and aches my ovaries.

Hi first word always comes to mind when I think of that first year.
I love all the firsts – first cry, first cuddle, first car ride home from the hospital, first smile, first laugh, first word… I love the baby stage!! The one that stood out the most to me as a parent was the first cry – we had a somewhat scary birth experience with both our children, and in each case they did not make a sound when they were born. Particularly with our first born, the neonatal resuscitation team was called in, and it was so awful for me as they whisked her away and I still hadn’t heard a peep from her. I will never forget hearing her first cry, finally, after waiting what seemed like ages! The room was achingly silent until that moment and it brought me such joy to know she was okay after all.
Jennifer what a beautiful story. I am so glad those first cries came and still stand strong in your mind. Life is a beautiful thing!
