Little Kaydance Story on Cerebral Palsy, Your VOTE Can Change Her Life #NMAM14 + P&G Beauty Giveaway $75

One of my favorite parts of social media and blogging is the chance to give back in many different ways. I am always looking for ways to inspire another, doing so gives me the greatest feeling inside.

Changing a Life

It was brought to my attention from a childhood friend of mine that a close family friend of hers was entering this contest that would change her little girls life. This contest is more than something that would be cool to play with or a trip to somewhere warm, this contest would literally change the life of this little girl and bring her confidence she deserves to ease her day.

NMEDA Mobility Awareness Month

Winning this contest would bring her hope and peace with her daily tasks. Winning would make her physical disabilities much easier to cope with. She has every chance to win with your help. The contest is based on votes and you can vote daily. Together let’s use Social Media to change the life of this little girl and give her the confidence to feel great when on the road. Let’s bring mobility awareness month to the front lines of your social feeds.

Kaydance’s Story

Written by her mother April Lane

Being a mom is truly my greatest joy in life. I love each of my kids with my whole heart, and they both have taught me so much about life. Kaydance, however, has taught me the most. Since the day she was born she has kept me on my toes. 10 weeks early, my husband and I scared to death – wondering how this could have happened. So many questions, and no answers.  But my little preemie was a fighter of course, took each day as it came and after a few months of being in the NICU we finally brought our babygirl home. Honestly one the best days of my life.

kaydance-lane-lindsay mobility awareness monthFast forward almost 6 years! And this babygirl, definitely not so little anymore!  Miss Kaydance is just like any other child. She’s loving, cheerful, quirky, very bright – extremely sassy! The only difference between her and my “typical” child is that she has Cerebral Palsy – drives a pink power-wheelchair (which most kids think is very cool) and she needs assistance with most of her daily activities. She doesn’t see herself as any different as the other kids in her class at school, or from her brother. And it is my goal to keep her feeling that way, and keep that beautiful smile on her face.

As parents, we want to protect our kids – and take any pain away.  That’s where being a mother of a child with a disability is hard – because the harsh reality is life isn’t fair.  For the most part I am positive about Kaydances’ disability- which in turn keeps her positive. But as she gets older, the more questions she has – and really I don’t know how to answer them all the time. And when she says to me “Mommy, I wish I could walk like the other kids” – my heart breaks into a million pieces because I can’t take the pain away that she feels and I can’t change her body to make her walk. And I want to cry, but I don’t, because I don’t want her to see me cry. I need to be strong for her.

As Kaydance gets older, obviously- the bigger she gets.  Lifting Kaydance and carrying her around is getting darn near impossible. I am at the point where I can’t even take her grocery shopping with me because she has gotten too big for the shopping carts. And sadly, we do not have a vehicle to properly transport her almost 300lb wheelchair with us everywhere we go. That is why I have entered my little princess into a contest.

This contest is raising awareness to the world – showing everyone how having a disability doesn’t mean you can’t live an active life. With the proper equipment Kaydance can be mobile – get out in the community and persevere.

The winners of this contest will each win an accessible van – which would be an absolute dream for Kaydance and our family. However, this contest is won by the most votes – that is where all you wonderful people with big hearts come in. We need your help to make Kaydances dream a reality.
