Five Themes Of FUN { March Break Ideas }
With the start of March break only a few days away, I found myself last night exploring how we were going to spend the week. With only 1 in school full-time our week won’t be completely different, but I do strive to make it memorable for her. With daddy still working I am not going to be adventuring out with all 4 to hassle the busy March break crowds, we will be keeping it low-key and close to home.
Last year I found the kids really enjoyed when I themed up our days, we had backwards day, messy hair day, favorite color day, sports day, dress-up day. This year with inspiration from THIS post I wrote this week I am going to look at March break as an opportunity. Here are some March Break Ideas.
Kindness Day
I plan on calling one day during our week off “Kindness Day” a day were we will show kindness to those in our lives in a meaningful way. Here are some ideas…
- Write and mail out letter’s to family we don’t see often. Not an email, an old fashion snail mail with a stamp.
- Visit Grandparents and take them a little just because gift to make them smile.
- Participate in a “Random Act of Kindness” as a family.
- Donate some toys and/or clothes to a local charity.
- All well teaching and talking to the children about the feeling of giving.
- Seek out other ways to touch the world or community.
Bake & Freeze Day
Stock up your pantry, grab your aprons and chef hats and bake away. I would suggest having a day of baking before your kindness day and use some of your baked goods to share as a kindness act. What is wrong with serving dessert first today?
Dragon Day
Dragons are such a hit in our house, it all started with “How To Train A Dragon” movie.
- Make THIS fun easy craft I found on Pinterest.
- Read a dragon book you picked up at your local library.
- After reading your book and making your craft. Have your little fire-breathing dragons act out the story you just read.
- Settle down, pop some pop corn and watch the best dragon movie ever “How To Train A Dragon” .
Science Day
We have a huge science fan in our house and what better way to spend March break than making a mess?
- Start with a mad scientist hair do, and some play clothes.
- Make sure each child has their very own discovery book to record their findings.
- You can buy some pretty cool kits or spend sometime Googling a few days before, there are a lot of experiments you can make with items you already have on hand.
Music Day
There is nothing better than putting on some tunes and dancing with the kids, it’s fun, plus an awesome workout. We use songza.com which has built-in play lists to listen too.
- Introduce the kids to all varieties of music, really listen to the sounds and instruments they use.
- Write a song.
- Explore the sounds around you and make music with everyday items.
What are you planning for March break?
The most important thing you can do this March break is be present, turn off the technology, listen, talk and enjoy your children.
Thanks for reading In R Dream!
Those are a lot of fun ideas! They would definitely keep the kids happy while off from school! We don’t have a march break. >I think our spring break is in April. But I’ll keep these on hand for when they are out of school.
School will be out before we know it!
What a great idea! I’ll be doing this in April for spring break. Thank you, thank you!
Oooooh I love the fact that we can celebrate Kindness Day and Music Day. What fun!
They are all such fun ideas! We are going to go whale watching! Wish us luck!
WOW whale watching… have FUN!
I would love to plan a music day
LOVE Kindness Day, what an awesome idea!!!
By far my favorite one too! Everyday should be a kindness day.
What great ideas! I love the kindness day idea! I love that each day has a theme and activities to match the theme.
this is great. When does camp Tammy start? I’ll be sure to send my kids
Great ideas. I haven’t made specific plans yet. There is a free event going on at a local mall I was thinking of taking the kids too. Other than that, we were going to just enjoy the break.
You are way more organized for this than I am. I personally have been on a baking-spree, so your bake & freeze day sounds right up my alley!!! *smile
I love the idea of themed days. I am going to work this into teaching the alphabet recognition around here to make it more exciting (and make me more exciting than the ipad) haha.
Great ideas! We love theme days here too. Let us know how things go! The Kindness Day is super cute and I know the boys would LOVE dragon day! We do Bake and Freeze, Music and Science quite a bit and they never seem to tire of those either. So nice to have a plan in place to curb the boredom!
What fun ideas! Definitely using these next week!
