Your
20 second sales pitch?
AKA elevator pitch…sell us!
The Naked Nursing Tank is an innovative Bamboo, Canadian Made midsection
cover up that is extra long in length, can be
worn as a belly band throughout pregnancy, and the open busted design finally
solves the problem of unsupportive and bulky nursing tanks that restrict women
from wearing low cut necklines.
What
inspired you start your business?
     Our
business began when we were both nursing our second children and we were
running around after our 2 year old boys.
There was a LOT of skin showing at the time, and it was uncomfortable
and stressful to have to be exposed during nursing.  One day
I couldn’t take the
exposure anymore, and so, on the spot,
at the gym, I cut my tank top below the breast so
I could wear my sports bra
and be unrestricted on top while keeping my
midsection covered…
and
voila!
The Naked Tank was born! I literally ran
to Carrie in the bathroom
,
showed her
in the stall, lol- and
excitedly introduced our
new
business endeavor!
How did you come up with the concept of your business?
We sat down and drew up the
patent and our mission statement, with the hopes
of helping all mothers
eliminate the stress of breastfeeding in public.
Today we are located in almost every major city
across Canada and
have
also recently
expanded into the
States
with the
intention of introducing our tank into

Europe
for the New
Year
.
What
is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
There is no real secret.  We just believe whole heartedly that this tank
needs to be made available to all mothers who are feeling uncomfortable nursing
in public.
We want breastfeeding to be a good experience, not a stressful one.
What is the best advice you can give to working
moms, juggling it all?
Advice for a new mompreneur
would be to
just
take it as it comes
.  Know that everything will fall into place as
long as you have the right intention.
Not to say to take it easy, but when you have the time to do something,
then you need to act on that and get it done.
Do you find working from home challenging? Or its is a breeze?
There really is no typical work
day when you work from home.  We both
still have
two 3
year olds who are not in daycare full time
and need a lot of our attention.  I have my youngest in a preschool 3 times a
week for a couple of hours and Carrie has a full time job at the University as
a C
ognitive Behavioural Therapist, so at this
point we really just do what we can when we can.
It will be interesting to see what will manifest for
our business when we have more time available -an exciting thought!
For now, we multi-task like many other mompreneurs and do our best to fulfil
our many different roles
.
If you
have kids at home, how do you keep them entertained so you can get crossing off
your list?
We really try not to do
too
much w
hen the kids are at home with us, but if we have to, it will just be a quick
reply on email, and then
we get back to it in the evening or when the kids are in school.
What
have been some of your major successes in business?
All of
the boutiques that we’ve sold to have been so exciting for us. But one in
particular that stands out for us
was when we got into
the
exclusive
EvyMama in Toronto, an amazing boutique that specializes in maternity
and nursing wear
. We had had
our eye on that store from the very beginning.

At the time, I was
away on vacation and Carrie and I prep talked about that one for a week…and she
went in with
complete
confidence with the tank and the owner loved it!!!
What
have been some of your major challenges in business?
Some major challenges have been the realization that this will
all happen when it should and not to over extend ourselves to push it along
even faster
We have great goals set in place, and still have the
family first approach.  It will all get done when it is supposed to.
If there was one piece of advice you could give
about running a successful business, what would it be?
Truly believe that your product is the best available.  And time management!!  Do not procrastinate!!
Do you have a favorite business tool and/or
resource that helps make your day easier?
No favorite resource yet!
What
is next for your business? Any secrets you want to share?
Yes, new colors are coming available in an affordable fabric where we’ll
be able to reach an even larger audience! It will be a compliment to our Luxury
Bamboo Edition. We’re s
o excited for this line to come out!!  Same great quality in fabric, but at an
even lower cost to the consumer
!!  (We have the
BEST manufacturer in Canada!!)
Five years from now, what is your vision?
Our vision is to have a close knit group
of employees running a successful and fulfilling company!
What
did you do in your past work life?
Stay at home mom, and I worked for a radio station for a couple
of years selling advertising.  Carrie is
a Cognitive Behavioral Therapist at the University
of Guelph.
R you living your dream?
Definitely living the dream!!!
