@WalmartCanada Mom of the Year has 8 Incredible Finalists #MOTY { Grab a tissue }

Back in June I introduced you to Walmart’s Mom of a
Year contest, I also shared my top 3 picks ~ read my story click
here.

Mom of the Year Award
was hugely successful in recognizing amazing women across Canada. In total,
16,909 moms were nominated, and now the eight finalists have been selected. I personally read all 8 stories and
was touched by the amazing mom’s that where chosen. I can only imagine the
tough job of narrowing it down to only 8 finalists. Well I was reading the
stories I was touched by all of them, thinking once again about all us moms do
to please and continue to make our families smile.

I had a hard time choosing
my favourite and I couldn’t pick just one, so I wanted to share a few touching
stories about these inspiring mom’s.

Meet Dedicated Role Model

Katie Schulz

Katie Schulz is dedicated
to making her daughter’s life a long and happy one. In 2009 Katie gave birth to
Sophia, who was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (CF). CF is the most common,
fatal genetic disease affecting young Canadians. Katie has since dedicated
herself to both her daughter’s care and to the fight against CF. Katie provides
Sophia with 2 hours of daily chest physiotherapy to clear the thick mucus in
her lungs. She teaches Sophia to take over 20 pills a day to digest her food ~ Read more on Katie ~

I was inspired by Katie’s story because of the challenges she has faced as a mother she has faced one of a mom’s greatest fears. Though dedication & positive thinking she is embracing these challenges doing everything and more to make her daughters life long & happy. I cannot imagine the difficulty she emotionally must of faced, and still does. Katie inspires me to make the best of each day. Thank you Katie for being such an inspiration to mom’s in Canada.

Meet Patient Mom Extraordinaire

Wendy White

Even after the sudden
death of her husband and mother, all within a year, she continues to give
unconditionally. Her positive attitude is one of her best qualities, and shines
through on even the darkest of days. She is a caring, dedicated and hardworking
role model to many friends and family

Wendy inspires me because even when she must of been emotionally hurt, she still was dedicated to her family. That proves that she is very desiring of Mom of the Year. It also proves that with a positive attitude, you emotionally can be strong enough to get through anything. Thank you Wendy for inspiring me and Canadian mom’s to stay positive, because with positive thinking we can shine.

Meet Dedicated Mom Extraordinaire

Tammy MacKinnon

Tammy has opened her home and heart to more than
30 foster children over the years. She has adopted 2 children from China and is
raising 2 biological children as well. She’s relentless in the pursuit of a
meaningful life for her children and any children she comes in contact with.
Her home and yard is never closed to the neighborhood children. She started an
adoption coalition, an adoption website, an organization that helped raise
money for playgrounds in Chinese orphanages, is the treasurer for a Canadian
group helping poor children get an education and healthy meal everyday in
Dominican Republic. She never stops for a second to smell her own roses.

Tammy is a true meaning of wearing your heart on your sleeve. When I read her story, I felt like I truly needed to get to know her. She has lived her whole life knowing the meaning of “giving” She has given so many children a reason to smile when they may of never been given that opportunity. Tammy inspires me to share smiles with children who need a hug. As I write this I don’t have a plan on how I am going make this happen, but I am inspired to give back in just like Tammy. Thank you Tammy for giving me the inspiration to give!

The eight finalists that were selected and will each receives $10,000 for personal use and $10,000 to the charity they have chosen, plus at the end of September a gala will be held to announce the Mom of the Year, who will receive $100,000 for her charity!

What an amazing journey, this has been from my first introduction to this program to reading these amazing touching stories. I am so honoured to be apart of the celebration. Stay tuned because we get to do it all again in 2013!
