Kawartha Cloth [Review]

I still have 2 in diapers
a toddler and newborn, and 2 who have graduated to underwear! I have always
just used disposables, without really thinking or trying anything else.
For a few reasons, the fear of the unknown, the upfront cost of cloth, the
extra laundry ( I already have a hate relationship with laundry) the
bulkiness, and the smell.

Recently I was given the
chance to review and test drive a cloth diaper from Kawartha Cloth. I was
really excited! Because it was completely foreign to me, and I love
trying new things (obviously- ha ha).
So let’s put my myths to
rest, for all the mama’s who like me who really until this review knew nothing
about cloth, and only assumed all.
Myth #1: The Unknown:
The first step for me was
to familiar myself with Kawartha Cloth diapers. At first I thought this was going to be
a bit confusing, however Kawartha Cloth has laid it all out clear for their
customer. With detailed steps, and video’s. As well as amazing customer
service, with open arms to teach.
Once I washed, and dried
the diaper, and was armed with my new knowledge I first tried it on my newborn
(3 months) So I used the second row of buttons which was his size adjustment
(as seen in the quick video). They were so soft, next to his sweet baby skin,
no crackling sounds, just smooth soft fabric. He actually looked really cute,
and so adorable sporting his new diaper. See….
And of course he peed
right away, and after a quick peek no leaking. Then he really put it to the
test. A full out baby blow, you know the kind. The one that you run to the
change table in hoping you made it before it sneaks up their backs. Well I was
very pleased with how good the cloth diaper kept it all in. The elastic top
sealed the escape, one bowl movement which would of, should of, been a whole wardrobe
change.
Myth #2: Upfront cost of Cloth
Diapers
From Newborn to toddler
you would need approx’ 20 Kawartha Cloth diapers. Which are adjustable through all the
stages from newborn to potty. Which would be an upfront investment of $200 –
$240 (all depending on style and patterns)
Based on the average
investment of disposable diapers for each child from newborn to potty is
approx’ $2000. So my family of 4 kids, in 8 years that’s $8000 on
diapers!!! Or a nice getaway? Wish I knew that 5 years ago!
Myth #3 : Smell
Although I only had one
diaper to sample, it wasn’t a day or two worth waiting to get washed. I
cannot really lay this myth to a complete honest rest. I can say that with
a dump of the solids in the toilet and a quick rinse and a
sealed tub. I wouldn’t think the smell would be too bad if you
washed every other day, as recommended.
Myth #4  Extra
laundry
Well there is no hiding
it, there will be extra laundry if you go the cloth route. However, I really
don’t think it would be as bad as I had always thought. The loads all the same
no sorting. You can even get your little ones in on the fun. I would stuff the
liner as I went, so each diaper was ready for use. And in the end is the extra
laundry really a bad thing? When you really start thinking about the effects of
our disposable diapers have on the environment? Which all in its self could be
a whole other blog article. So I found just that another blog article with
very important facts for my readers on the effects of disposable
diapers, Click here to read the Myths of disposable
Diapers. Are they really disposable?

 Myth #5 : Bulkiness
I am assuming this was
true many many moons ago. When diaper pins existed?! But not with the whole new
modern twist of Cloth diapers. There was no bulk in my little ones pants. Just a
tiny soft padded bottom.

Kawartha Cloth  stood up to the newborn test, and the over night toddler test was a sure winner. As we speak my 3 month old is supporting his Kawartha Cloth diaper.
Know that I have laid my
Myths to rest. I must admit I am a wee bit disappointed in myself for not
exploring this route years ago. (not just for the could of been trip, although
that would of been nice) But because I honestly enjoyed the cloth experience. I
am 100% sure my little ones did too. So you ask will I switch? The verdict is
still up in the air, and discussions are being had.
