Family Skiing at Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride In Haliburton Highlands – Family Memories Made Here
Located in Haliburton Highlands in Central Ontario, Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride is in the heart of tourist and cottage country. We recently took the kids skiing there and although ‘baby it was cold outside‘ it was the perfect ski day if you dressed for the Canadian winter. Here we’ll share why family skiing at Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride is worth the drive into cottage country.
Families Love the Covered Surface Lift for All Downhill Skiers
In 2009 Sir Sam’s added Canada’s first covered surface lift for all downhill skiers, cross-country, and downhill mountain biking. It takes 7 minutes from the bottom to the top, but you can also stop halfway to exist. By existing halfway up the hill, it’s excellent for the beginner skier to get comfortable in their new skill. The conveyor belt makes it a safe glide on and glides off exist for skiers and boarders of all ages. The time tunnel is a peaceful break to refocus and blocks you from all the elements of nature during the harsh Canadian winters; especially when the temperatures have been dipping to -25.
Minimal Lift Lines
Since Sir Sam’s is in the heart of Haliburton Highlands, you don’t get the crowds like the Ski resorts closer to the GTA receive. We’ve been skiing with Sir Sam’s on numerous occasions and never have I experienced lines that have been more than a couple of minutes waiting. Which means more time to ski the slopes!
Five Wood Burning Fireplaces
Nothing warms you to the bone like a wood burning fireplace. Sir Sam’s keeps five wood-burning fireplaces roaring during operating hours. Giving you the opportunity to warm those little toes before round two.
Family Owned and Operated For 51 years
I love listening to a real success story. The beginnings, challenges, improvements and so on…knowing someone is working hard at making their dreams come true fills my heart with so much happiness. That’s why I enjoy my Entrepreneur Q&A features. It all started in 1945, and over the last 50+ years, the Bishop family has been working hard around the clock expanding, dreaming and working hard to make Sir Sam’s Ski & Ride what it is today. Seeing the family with all-hands-on-deck during your visit reminds you that the strength of a family can help make dreams come true. One of our ski instructors is Alisha who’s the granddaughter of the original Bishop owner. She’s grown up on these slopes and a fantastic teacher (actually she’s the best on hill instructor I’ve had over the years – and I’ve had a lot of ski instructors.)
The Caesar’s at Sammy’s Pub are Delicious
They have a typical ski lodge cafeteria on hand, and of course, you’re welcome to bring your lunch. At the back of the chalet on the second level, you’ll find Sammy’s Pub which is licensed and serves a few pub style snacks, but if you’re a lover of the Canadian Classic Caesar than you must try their famous drink.
Picture this: It’s a sunny ski day you’re taking a break after a long morning of skiing with your family. You’re sitting on the second level deck overlooking Sir Sam’s slopes, and while the kids are sipping a Hot Chocolate, you choose Sammy’s Pubs famous Caeser. You sip the spicy drink us Canadians love with the song Sweet Home Alabama playing in the background. That to me is how I’d like to spend a snowy winter Canadian day; Sir Sam’s delivers that moment and so many more.
Daily Family Lift Ticket Cap – Only $199 Weekends/ Holidays and $110 Midweek (two adults + 3 kids)

Ski and Snowboard Cross Track and Terrain Park
Now, this is the highlight for my hubby and kids; I find it a lot of fun as well. Sir Sam’s Terrain Park includes boxes, rails and jumps for the more adventurous skier and border. Sir Sam’s Ski also has a real professionally groomed ski and snowboard cross track where the guest and scheduled races take place. There is something for the beginner and advanced skiers here.
