Discover Muskoka: Arrowhead Provincial Park Ice Skating Trail

Discover Muskoka: Arrowhead Provincial Park Ice Skating Trail

Last week I posted an article “Best of our Canadian Winter Family Day Mini Vacation in Muskoka”  however it was missing a huge part of our mini vacation. Before we arrived at Ontario Pioneer Camp we arrived at Arrowhead Provincial Park with our ice skates in hand.

I heard about Arrowheads ice skating trail through BT Toronto and was intrigued to get my outdoor loving family there. Since we were heading up to the Muskoka anyways we planned a trip to Arrowhead Provincial Park as our first stop on Family Day weekend. We couldn’t wait to try out the 1.3km Ice Skating Trail that loops through the beautiful thick Muskoka forest at Arrowhead Provincial Park.

Like any Nikon Mom my camera was not far. I captured some great memories that we can look back on and smile in the years to come. This is my favorite picture two of my boys striding along the beautiful ice trail.

I couldn’t ask for a more beautiful day, even though the forecast was  -27 with a wind chill of -40 the thick Muskoka forest kept the wind out and our strides kept our bodies warm.

Even though only five out of six of our family can skate that didn’t keep us down. Daddy carried our Little O in his hiking backpack so no one missed the fun.

The ice skating trail was the perfect length, I did one loop well the kids and daddy did it three times. Since the ice is not freshly cleaned  I did find it hard to skate on. Which just means a few more breaks were taken along the way.

When we were finished there was a nice warm fire to cozy at and we brought our own hot apple cider to warm our insides up. Although it was very busy the ice didn’t feel overly crowded at all because there are so many other winter activities happening throughout the park. Such as cross-country skiing, snowshoeing, tubing to name a few. With a cost of $16 per car load you cannot find entertainment so affordable these days. I would highly recommend the drive to Arrowhead Provincial Park to make unique memories with your family.

Before you make the drive to Arrowhead Provincial Park in Huntsville I would double-check with them to make sure the trails are open –
