Our Princess is Riding A Float In This Years Toronto Santa Claus Parade 2014

Little Girls Dream

When I was a little girl growing up in Scarborough my father would take my sister and I to the Toronto Santa Claus Parade each year. I remember it being so festive and a tradition that I really enjoyed. I haven’t been down to see the Toronto Santa Claus Parade since I was a little girl. During those years standing on the curb watching the big beautiful floats go by I would dream that one day I could be one of the princess on the float in those beautiful costumes. Although my wish never came true, this Sunday I can to see it come true for another little girl.

The Invitation

When I first read the email tears started to welt in my eyes of joy and excitement. My daughter was invited to sit on the Barbie float in 2014 Toronto Santa Claus Parade. It didn’t take me long to scream yes from the top of my lungs with a smile from ear to ear. I wish I taped Miss C’s look on her face when we asked her, it was one of those priceless moments that us parents get to enjoy.

The Tough Job

The best part was Miss C got to pick a friend to join her on the Barbie float. Although this was great, it was also a struggle for her to pick just one friend. She decided to write a tally chart with questions for her friends. Questions like: Do you like Barbie? Do you like the cold? Do you like Santa? she thought long and hard about the process and took her tally to school. Once she questioned her friends she and I went over her results. In combination of excitement in answering the questions and the one with the most yes answers was her pick to enjoy this adventure with.

Toronto Santa Claus Parade 2014 Sneak Peek into Santa’s Workshop

A couple of weeks ago we got to take the girls to Toronto Santa Claus Parades secret workshop where all the customs and floats are kept. This is extremely top secret stuff. I didn’t think we would get a chance to even see the floats but we did get a wee little sneak peek. It was amazing. I cannot explain the feeling that over took me walking into that warehouse. Tears started to welt again and history ran through my mind. We seen walls lined with plaster masked that are no longer worn. Boxes filled with hats, crowns and wings. Rows and rows of custumes waiting to be worn. Floats being worked on and some covered in plastic wrap waiting for the big day. Our peek was so short and I wish I had my Nikon with me because to my surprise she let me snap some pictures with my phone. However I was told I couldn’t share them till after the parade day.
