Riley from Bayo Bundles spilled it… In Your Dream Q & A
Meet mompreneur Riley a busy mom who is balancing life, business and family as she follows her dreams.
Grab a tea and take a” Me” moment, you deserve it.
Tell us a bit about yourself, hobbies, interests, family, kids, husband, wife, pets, and your home life.
Hello! I’m Riley. My husband, Dustin, and I have been together for 12 years and are parents to a wonderful little girl named Briar. My days are split between running my business, Bayo Bundles, and running after a very energetic toddler. As a family we enjoy relaxing afternoons at the park, dance parties in our living room, and traveling as much as possible. I love coffee and ice cream and I am obsessed with baby names (seriously, if anyone needs help naming their next child, please feel free to email me.)

Most parents would love to spend time with their kids doing fun and educational activities but they just don’t have time to scour the internet for fresh ideas, head to the store to buy all the supplies, and do all the prep work. Bayo Bundles is the solution! Every month our subscribers experience a new topic through crafting, building, experimenting, and exploring. Each kit has a unique theme (anything from arts and culture to science and technology) and includes all the materials needed for each activity, a booklet filled with lessons and fun facts related to the theme, and a fun souvenir or treat.
What inspired you start your business?
I was inspired to start creating activity kits a few years ago when I began volunteering as a tutor for young students with learning disabilities. I found it challenging to keep their interest for an extended period of time so I created fun, hands-on activities for each lesson. The students had a blast and were learning so much without even realizing it. After having my daughter and getting to know other moms and dads I realized that many parents struggle with ways to entertain their children. Most parents would love to spend hours crafting and experimenting with their kids but they just don’t have the time to put it all together. I knew that I could make it easy for parents so I got to work and started Bayo Bundles.
What is your balancing secret in managing a business and family?
I wish I knew the secret! My daughter is home with me full time so I work my butt off when she naps and after she goes to bed at night. It’s challenging but it’s really important to me to be home with her.
What is the best advice you can give to working moms, juggling it all?
My best advice is to make time for yourself, even when it seems impossible. I started working on Bayo Bundles when Briar was only a few months old so between caring for her and trying to build a business, I really felt I didn’t have the time or energy to do anything else. As she gets older, I’m beginning to realize that I have to make myself a priority too so I joined a bootcamp class at the gym and I force myself to go after she is in bed, even though I am exhausted. I’m also planning to take some photography courses this winter, which is something I have wanted to do for years. As working moms it’s so important to take care of ourselves, whether it’s working out, indulging in a hobby, or even just taking a hot bath.
What is next for your business? Any secrets you want to share?
In the next couple of weeks I am launching our very first limited edition Thanksgiving themed bundle. It will include several crafts, some fun with science, and an easy, mess-free game to keep everyone in the family entertained at Thanksgiving dinner. I am also so excited to expand the business to include Birthday Bundles later this year, which will include everything you need for your entire party to enjoy themed activities, games, and party favours.
Are you living your dream?
Yes!! Having our daughter was the biggest dream come true for me and my husband. I feel so incredibly fortunate to have such a wonderful family and to have the opportunity to pursue something I am so passionate about. I love every minute that I spend creating new bundles and I love every minute that I spend with my family.
Do you have a motivational quote, you would love to share?
In the early stages of building my business I read somewhere “It’s not about your resources, it’s about your resourcefulness.” I wrote this down and taped it to the shelf above my computer. As a one-woman-operation I do everything myself – website design and maintenance, advertising, accounting, dealing with suppliers and importers – and I had no experience in any of these areas. I can’t even tell you how many times something would come up and I would think to myself ‘I don’t know how to do that’. I would experience a moment of panic and then I would see this quote and remind myself that I may not know how to do it now, but I can learn how to do it.
